Which term is the category of artistic composition, such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama?

Genre is the broad category used to classify a work of literature by its form or content. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama are all examples of genres because each represents a different kind of writing—what the work is about and how it’s put together. Setting, plot, and literary devices describe elements or techniques inside a work, not the overall category. So genre best captures the idea of these broad kinds of artistic composition.
